The sunflower leads a large and colourful life basking in the joy of the summer sun and the sometimes sadness of the rain in both equal and unequal measure. Seeds in the centre will one day grow to be large and colourful sunflowers in their own right. I once started as a seed, but as I enter the fall of my own life I have come to reflect with fascination how my different circles of friends and chosen family from all over the diaspora interact with the same yet subtly different kind of harmony as part of my circle. In a way I am the sunflower in this image…. I'm reminded as much as I document the amazing lives of others, I am also documenting my own.
